Welcome to the Astronomy Club at UCSC!



We are a student led UCSC registered organization whose mission is to provide outreach events such as star gazing parties, observing classes, and guest speakers. Our events are free and open to anyone who is interested.

Leonids Meteor Shower and Star Gazing Party

Crown Meadow


Come see the Leonids Meteor Shower!
The Leonids shower is reliably one of the best meteor showers each year.  This year it is predicted to be particularly good with 500-1000 meteors per hour!!
In addition, the new moon and this dark location will ensure that we have dark skies to fully appreciate this cosmic fireworks display.
We will also bring telescopes to take advantage of the dark skies to observe deep sky nebulae, clusters, and galaxies.

Please Note:  All Star Gazing Parties have the possibility of being cancelled at the last minute due to inclement weather.  Please check this website prior to departing for the event!

Dress warmly and bring a flashlight and blanket to lay down on.

The Crown Meadow is located a short distance up the Chinquapin fire road behind the fire station next to the Crown Apts.  There is a parking lot in this area with metered and permit spaces.  You will need to park your car and walk the short (~150m) distance up the dirt fire road - bring a flash light!
