Priya Kollipara awarded NSF Graduate Fellowship UC Santa Cruz Astronomy & Astrophysics graduate student Priya Kollipara has been awarded a prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship (GRF). This three-year fellowship will support her work on galaxy formation and evolution. Her research proposal, titled "Mergers and Acquisitions: Asset Stripping, Hostile Takeovers, and the Evolution of Galaxies" will study the manner in which galaxies acquire mass via mergers vs. smooth gaseous infall and examine the resulting impacts on the star formation rate, galactic morphologies, and stellar chemodynamics. She is one of nine NSF Graduate Research Fellows among current graduate students in UCSC's Department of Astronomy & Astrophysics. |
