UCSC astronomer Stanford Woosley to receive UCSC highest faculty honor

Professor Stanford Woosley has been selected to receive UCSC's highest faculty award, the Faculty Research
Lecture. Woosley is a world-expert in supernovae explosions and gamma-ray bursts and has received many
honors recently, including election to the National Academy of Sciences. The UCSC award recognizes his
extraordinary research achievements. The award will be announced at the UCSC Senate meeting on May 31.
Woosley will be honored and deliver the lecture on an evening next February, 2008.

Other astronomers who have also received this award include Albert Whitford, Robert Kraft, and Sandra Faber.
